So…I’ve been taking a little sabbatical. I have not been ignoring on purpose. Life has been busy! Children have kept me busy, school has been nuts and laundry had to get caught up. You know…priorities!

Today my father called me and this is how the conversation went…
Dad - “Hey do you have a pellet gun?”
ME - “HUH? What are you talking about. You don’t do guns!”
Dad - “I do when I have a freaking squirrel that has chewed through the roof in my house and now is scampering about! I’m tired of listening to the pitter patter of her little feet! I’ve had enough! I’m going postal!”
ME - “OK. (thinking OMG to myself) So you think that by shooting in your roof with a pellet gun that you’ll get her? What are you thinking?” Also thinking to myself….gun…madman…NO WAY!

This squirrel and my dad have history. Two years ago this same squirrel got into their attic and went through every container that they had so that she could have her babies. She had them…in my parent’s attic. The scampering and noise use to drive my parents crazy. They called a unit from animal control and they couldn’t catch her. They tried humane traps. She took the bait, tripped the trap but escaped. I swear this squirrel has teeth that can go through metal. She’s one determined female.
During the winter my dad finally caught her and let her out. He fixed the hole in the roof that she caused and all was peaceful…for a day. On the evening of the 2nd day he heard the pitter patter and thought it was just that he had lived with it so long that he was dreaming it. NO! She got in through the vents. She chewed through the metal vents and got back inside. They got a company to come out and “extract” her from the attic. They were outfoxed by this little animal.
My father was up most of the night last night listening to her start her bed for herself. She is preparing for the start of the mating season. Last night with all of her cavorting she kept both of my parents awake. Well between that and the hole she made in the roof that let all the water in that eventually dripped through the ceiling in the middle of the night. It was like water torture! They were both bleary eyed and a little postal.
When speaking with my dad a little scene out of the movie, “Steel Magnolias” came to mind. You know, the scene where the father wants to get the birds out of the Magnolia trees and does a huge amount of fireworks. He went deaf for a day. There weren’t any birds at the wedding. I couldn’t help but giggle a bit. After telling him the story his voice sounded like he had won the lottery. My mother yelled that he had a wicked grin on his face. Oh great. They’re both nuts now.

This and that

I feel like I’m waking up to a winter wonderland this morning. We have about 4 inches of snow. My flowers have probably bit the dust. I hope not. I enjoy my garden so much. Just the day before yesterday we were having to spray on sun screen (which did not work very well by the way) and run through the sprinklers!
On a different note I had a call last night to attend the birth of their new little one that is coming in 2 months. Of course I let her know that I would be thrilled. She is expecting a little boy. I think that they will name him Carson. So cute.
Anyway today is interesting as far as weather. Hopefully it will melt quickly and my flowers won’t die.

I CAN NOT CONTAIN MY EXCITEMENT! When I got home Friday night my hubby had a surprise for me!!!! (he’s so sweet) WE ARE GOING TO THE CONCERT!!!!!!!!! He saw that Journey and Def Leppard were coming and had already purchased the tickets as an anniversary gift! He knows my weakness. Actually it ties in perfectly to our anniversary. We had Journey songs in our wedding.
August is too far away. I’ll just have to entertain every around with mini versions of “Faithfully” and “Open Arms” until they are sick to death of hearing it.

Pining away

I’ve been pining away for something so stupid yet it is not. It recaptures my youth and makes me feel 17 again. It takes me back to a time when I had a KILLER body (34/19/31) (OK so I was a little too skinny but who cares!) It takes me back to making out in the front seat of a Fiero, promise rings, never watching what I ate, collegiate volleyball, being on top of the world and roller rinks. I know I know that was my youth, but just knowing about THIS makes me drool, faint, dream and melt!
My anniversary is the week after. May be I can convince Hubby that this would ROCK as an anniversary gift.

The Little Tidbits

It is the little tidbits my children give me that can either keep me on my toes or bring me to tears. Things like, ” MOMMY is HB suppose to be in the cat box” to “I have to take off my shoes in church because it’s God’s house!” I definitely underestimate their reasoning and understanding of the world around them.
Today was one of those milestones that makes me choke back a tear or two. Today Hula Boy wanted to share his toys without me asking. Now this seems like no biggie to most but this has been a struggle for us. It is not that he does not want to share, it’s just that he does not see the need to share. Today he saw the need. He saw my friend’s son very upset and he needed comfort. I was holding him but he would not settle down. I then decided to try to rock him. HB came up to him and gave him his favorite bunny. He said, “Bunny helps me feel better when I’m sad.” My friend’s son quit crying and cuddled up to a well loved Mr. Bunny. He then looked at me and said, “Now he feels better. Now he will quit hurting my ears with his yelling!” Ok so we have to work on tact but he’s got a start.

TAGGED!

I was tagged by CC Jellybean!! I am suppose to write 6 weird facts about myself. Just what you needed today! More weirdness!!

1. I am afraid of heights yet I went glacier climbing while I was in Alaska and LOVED the climb up. The climb down? Well let’s just say I panicked!!

2. When I’m in a vehicle I have to lift my feet slightly when we pass an entrance or street on my side. I KNOW…IT’S WEIRD!

3. If I bite a nail on one side I must bite the nail on the other hand same finger. Ok so another OCD thing.

4. My dream is to sing the “Star Spangled Banner” at the opening of a Rockies game at Coors Field.

5. I was a concert pianist by 9 years old. I did not keep up with the piano as I should have and have lost a lot of the natural talent I had. If I dedicated myself…I bet I could get it back.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST….

6. I have started running because PAMALAMADING DONG TOLD ME TO! No really she inspired me. I am now running almost a half of a mile before my heart feels like it’s coming out of my chest!!

I am suppose to tag other people to do this but instead….if you care to write here what your weird fact are MORE POWER TO YOU!

Easter was a simple affair this year. Simple and non complicated. Generally we have family galore and church galore but this year was almost eerie.
We got up and did our normal Easter Sunday church. That was wonderful. After church (because church got out at 10:30) we went to brunch at a nearby hotel. YUMMY prime rib and I did not have to do the dishes. What more could I ask for?! It was a yummy time with my family and my sister’s in laws. It’s odd seeing my sister’s in laws and my parents doing things together. I mean it’s great but it is odd. They have become very good friends. They are planning a vacation together in Hawaii this October.
Since HH’s parents have moved there have been a few adjustments. We normally do church and brunch with my family and then go over for an Easter Egg hunt at Nana’s and Papa’s house. Then we do dinner at their house. The whole family comes over and goes nutty. It’s fun. This year…I had a date with the dreaded laundry. Probably a better thing seeing that I REALLY needed to get it done.
All in all it was a strange yet wonderful Easter. Hope yours was as well.
