For our children’s 3rd birthday, Hula Hubby always makes something for the kids. For Hula Girl he made a lovely victorian cottage. This year will be Hula Boy’s 3rd birthday. (in July) Hula Hubby could not find plans to make a train (because Hula Boy is SO addicted to trains) so he did them himself. One dealer said that he would sell us a set of plans for 1,000.00. GFAH! No way! So he did this by looking at a picture and dreaming as big as he could dream! The steam engine part is a crawl through. Inside is complete with a place for a bell pull and a steering wheel. There are little windows so HB can pretend to shoo the cows off the track. I think he did a fabulous job. When we put it on the hill I’ll take a picture of it.

Hula Boy will be coming round the mountain all summer long….and many more to come.

Date Night that takes us back

Last night hubby and I had a lovely date. We went to Johnny Rockets for dinner because it was fast and then we went to go see Star Wars. I needed to see it. I needed to fill in the blanks from all of the movies. I rented a few to remind myself of what to look for.
When I was in elementary school/Jr High Star Wars came out. Since I was not able to go to movies (because my parents were kind of nutty about that) I had to wait until they came out on VHS and Christmas.
Every Christmas my aunt would spoil us rotten and let us watch TV as much as we wanted. The forbidden movies were no longer taboo. We had control over a real live TV. WOE we were big stuff. We did not have a TV at home so having one that we could watch anytime was out of our realm of spoiling. It was OVER THE TOP!
My cousin was a year and a half older than me. We would stay up until three in the morning watching Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Monty Python, and Saturday Night Live with Steve Martin. (because he was crazy for Steve Martin) We caught up on a whole years worth of deprivation within the 3 weeks of Christmas break.
It was odd to sit in the theater as an adult and think back to the way I felt after watching the first Star Wars. My mind was completely blown by the creativity of the person that thought up all of the characters and the setting.
I spent all of these years wondering how the beginning of the story started. All of my questions were answered. Answered in an almost predictable way. Twenty years of wondering put to a rest, and I loved every minute of it!

I’m out of the office today doing all the things that a mom does on the last day of school. I’m frantically recovering from the awards ceremony because I have 5 children that aren’t my own here visiting for a few days! AAAHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
So if I seems a bit scattered….please forgive. I’m only going crazy with a few extra children. *twitch

Our son as we know is a piece of work! He has a mind and a will of his own. He’s two no further explanation is needed.
This morning we were playing in the little pool and I turned around to help my niece tie her swimming suit. When I turned back around I noticed a little white bottom. Hula Boy had whipped down his pants and started peeing in the pool!
What am I going to do with this boy?!

Strange Sense

Have you ever stood in a room and though…”I haven’t heard the kids is a few minutes! I wonder what’s up?” Then a strange sense of panic hits and the search begins.
That happened to me this morning. Momentary panic raced through me. The search began. I went downstairs only to find my children playing Barbies. My son had a half dressed awful looking Barbie and my daughter was the Princess Barbie. They were playing so nicely that I didn’t disturb them. I went to walk away and something white caught my eye. I looked around the corner only to discover that they had attempted to fill up a big container of popcorn from our antique popcorn popper it was EVERYWHERE.
SIGH* Maid duty calls again. Nevermind, that’s why I’m writing. They’re cleaning it up!

Hoover Vacs and 10 month old babies

What does a Hoover Vacuum and a 10 month old have in common?

EVERYTHING!

Today I have the Genuine Nephew’s and Hula Boy. What an adventure. I had almost forgotten what loving work a 10 month old is!!

Tonight is Genuine Girl’s Kindergarten Graduation. Of course it is a HUGE occasion because she is getting to be such a big girl! So Mrs. G went to spend the day with her while I have the boys. Perfect plan. It’s been wonderful. Just thought I would take a minute to update everyone.
Have a wonderful day!

GUY-ED

Yesterday we were outside looking at some flowers and Hula Boy kept pointing at certain flowers and saying, “This flower guyed.” GUYED? HUM. I was looking at a limp, bent over flower that was on its last leg. “Mommy it’s guyed.” He kept insisting. I didn’t understand. I had to have Hula Girl do the translation. “Mommy he’s saying the flower has died.” Died?! Ah get it now. I kept wondering what a guy had to do with a bend over, limp, dead flower. Actually I kind of found it funny!

Revolution

I have been out looking for a proper funeral dress. This seems to be a daunting task. I guess I am just picky. I don’t want to look like I am dressed in my grandmother’s mu mu when I go out. I am 35 not 75.
I went to 4 different malls and countless stores to find exactly what I wanted. I ended up at Coldwater Creek. Originally I wanted something in black. No go this time of year. So I decided to take the plunge and do color.
So I finally found a skirt combo. I love it. I was so excited to find it because I generally have an issue finding cute clothes. No I am not so huge that nothing fits but I am an 18 or a 20 depending on the style. I want something that is flattering not FATtering.
Hula Boy was a champ. I brought toys for him to play with and he played very content on the floor of the dressing room while I ranted that nothing fit the way that I wanted it to.
I ended up with THIS and THIS (the one button cardigan) I can wear it to church as well so I was doing the happy dance.
After we got done I went to take Hula Boy out to lunch. He loves pizza so we went to The Oven which is a pizza place here. We went in and had lunch. Excellent. Then we got ready to pay and I realized that I had left my debit card at the other store. I paniced because I knew I didn’t have cash and we don’t use credit cards. My face felt hot and red. I explained that I had left my debit card at the other store which was about 1/2 mile away. I could get it and go back. I did have my check book and I was very willing to pay for it with a check. They did not accept checks. *CRAP! So I asked if I could leave a check and they hold it while I went and got my debit card. There was a pow wow in the kitchen with finally a yes. I went down the street, picked up my card and went back.
I must admit, I am having a HUGE issue with all of the places that do not accept checks anymore. When you are a family that doesn’t use credit (by choice not because we can’t get it) it is frustrating. The debit card is the only thing to use. Even then that is sketchy when it comes to paying depending on the limit you can charge at your bank per day. (based of course on your balance)
I am feeling a bit ranty today and wish to start a revolution. A limit on mu mus. Have mercy, just because I am big doesn’t mean that I want to wear a sheet. Also a list of businesses that do not accept checks so that I do not patron there and embarrass myself all over again!
